The incident took place at the couple’s residence in Powai neighbourhood of Mumbai in Maharashtra.
The accused, identified as Ravishankar Chauhan, is an employee of a security service firm. He suspected that his wife Puja, a homemaker, was having an affair with one Karan Rajbhar, who lives near their house in Powai’s Hari Om Nagar area.
Woman beaten with hot spatula for over six hours
On March 6, Chauhan returned home in an inebriated condition and picked up an argument with Puja, accusing her of having an affair with Rajbhar. He flared up in rage when she took objection to the accusation. He assaulted her with a hot spatula while mouthing abuses.
“I (Puja) objected to his false accusations at which point he got angry and went to the kitchen, put a steel spatula on the gas burner, and after it got super hot he used it to hit me… The act lasted for over six hours. He branded me with a hot spatula on both my hands, back and also my left cheek,” a report by Hindustan Times quoted the victim as saying.
On Friday (March 12), Puja approached the police with her complaint against Chauhan. The police arrested him on Monday (March 15). A case has been registered against him under IPC sections 323 (assault), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 504 (abuse) and 506-2 (criminal intimidation).
In another incident, an unemployed man in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district allegedly murdered his ailing wife as he was tired of caring for her.
